HISTORICAL CONSCIOUSNESS: 2009 - Lucy Vodden, the childhood pal of John Lennon’s son Julian, passed away at the age of 46 after losing her battle with autoimmune disease lupus. She was the inspiration for The Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”, written mostly by John after Julian showed his father a school drawing he called Lucy - in the sky with diamonds, depicting his classmate. 2003 - Hall of Fame tennis player Althea Gibson died at the age of 76. 1975 – The Spaghetti House siege, in which nine people are taken hostage, takes place in London. FYI: The Spaghetti House has amazing carbonara. 1941 – Ted Williams achieved a .406 batting average for the season, and became the last major league baseball player to bat .400 or better. 1928 – Sir Alexander Fleming noticed a bacteria-killing mold growing in his laboratory, discovering what later became known as penicillin.
