WE ARE FUCKED: Yesterday in one sentence: Trump abruptly left the G7 summit in Canada and returned to Washington as the Israel-Iran conflict escalated; Trump held a closed-door national security meeting to weigh a possible U.S. strike on Iran’s Fordo nuclear site; a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced resolutions to block Trump from ordering U.S. military strikes on Iran without congressional approval; Trump said he won’t call Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz after a gunman killed a Democratic state representative and wounded a state senator in what authorities called a targeted political attack; the Senate Republicans’ revised version of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” would slash Medicaid spending, shrink the child tax credit, and cap state and local tax deductions at $10,000; the House Republicans’ tax and spending bill would add $2.8 trillion to the deficit over the next decade – more than previously estimated – because higher interest costs outweigh the modest economic growth it would generate; 64% of Americans have an unfavorable view of Trump’s "One Big Beautiful Bill"; and 66% of Americans have heard either little or nothing about the House Republican’s spending bill.

HISTORICAL CONSCIOUSNESS: 2023 - Titan, a submersible operated by OceanGate, disappeared in international waters in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 400 nautical miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. The submersible, carrying five people, was part of a tourist expedition to observe the wreckage of the Titanic. Communication with Titan was lost 1 hour and 45 minutes into its dive to the wreck site. Authorities were alerted when it failed to resurface at the scheduled time later that day. Four days earlier 80 migrants died when their boat capsized in the Mediterranean ocean. Nobody cared, but five rich assholes die while on a morbid tour and the world stops. 1994 - The Loughinisland massacre in the small village of Loughinisland, County Down, Northern Ireland. Members of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), a loyalist paramilitary group, burst into a pub with assault rifles and fired on the customers, killing six civilians and wounding five. The pub was targeted because it was frequented mainly by Catholics, and was crowded with people watching the Republic of Ireland play against Italy in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. It is thus sometimes called the "World Cup Massacre". The UVF claimed the attack was retaliation for the killing of three UVF members by the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA). 1993 - Killer Bees reached Tucson, Arizona; a small dog was killed from a bee attack. Their original source was Brazil, where the bees were imported for experimental crossbreeding. 1984 - Talk radio personality Alan Berg was shot 12 times in Denver by a Christian terrorist who didn’t like the 1st amendment but apparently loved the 2nd. 1982 – Italian banker Roberto Calvi's body is discovered hanging beneath Blackfriars Bridge in London, England. 1967 - Jimi Hendrix ended his Monterey Pop Festival performance with an unpredictable version of "Wild Thing", which he capped by kneeling over his guitar, pouring lighter fluid over it, setting it on fire, and then smashing it into the stage seven times before throwing its remains into the audience. This produced wild, unpredictable sounds, and these actions contributed to his rising popularity. 1965 - The Supremes play the Country Club in Grosse Point, Michigan. 1948 - The United Nations Commission on Human Rights adopted its International Declaration of Human Rights. 1948 – Columbia Records introduced the long-playing record album in a public demonstration at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, New York. 1940 – The "Finest Hour" speech is delivered by Winston Churchill. 1873 - Suffragist Susan B. Anthony was fined $100 for attempting to vote in the 1872 presidential election. 1858 – Charles Darwin received a manuscript by fellow naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace on natural selection, which prompted Darwin to publish his theory of evolution. 1815 - British and Prussian troops defeated the French under Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo in Belgium. 1812 - The United States declared war against Britain.
