DEEP THOUGHTS: When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.
EAT ME: Fried Clams, Chocolate Wafers - Idaho Potatoes, White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake
FOODIE: Apparently, Tom Cruise has a thing for cake. Every holiday season, he sends out hundreds of coconut cakes to friends, fellow celebrities, and sometimes random people, usually with a small note attached. Tom Hanks and Kirsten Dunst have gotten them, and they swear the so-called “Tom Cruise Cake” is the best they’ve ever had.
HOLIDAY: Dog Days of Summer begin (7/3-8/11)
Dog Days - the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius (known colloquially as the "Dog Star"), which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Dog Days of Summer continue until August 11.
HOROSCOPE: A hand crank, two steel hooks attached at opposite ends of the oral cavity, and sheer mechanical force will soon leave you with a giant smile on your face.
HOW-TO: Break on Through (To the Other Side), Not Scientology
JOKE: An insolent teenager stomps off to her room... Teenager: "And another thing - JIM MORRISON SUCKS!" Dad: "Hey! There'll be no slamming of the Doors in this house!"
THE ONION: Woman Passed Out In Hot Yoga Class Must Have Achieved Nirvana

TRUMPED: Yesterday in one sentence: Trump’s $4.5 trillion tax and spending bill stalled in the House as Republican leaders struggled to secure enough votes amid opposition from both conservatives and moderates; a federal judge blocked Trump’s attempt to shut down asylum claims at the southern border; the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the state’s 1849 abortion ban; the U.S. reached a preliminary trade deal with Vietnam that will impose a 20% tariff on Vietnamese imports; Paramount agreed to pay Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit over the editing of a 2024 “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris; and Trump blocked nearly $7 billion in federal school funding days before the academic year begins, impacting after-school programs, English-language support, and teacher training.
WORD: Brittany!
WTF?!: Everyone is Welcome Here
HISTORICAL CONSCIOUSNESS: 1984 - The return of the living dead in Louisville. 1976 - Tina left Ike. 1973 - David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust during a live concert at London’s Hammersmith Odeon in front of 3,500 fans. The concert featured an 18-song set, with Jeff Beck joining the band for a medley of "The Jean Genie" and The Beatles' "Love Me Do". Just before the final song of the concert, "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide", Bowie announced, “Of all the shows on this tour, this particular show will remain with us the longest, because not only is it the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do”. The fans and press took this to mean that Bowie was retiring entirely causing much media attention, however it only referred to the Ziggy Stardust persona, and the Spiders from Mars backing band. The final Ziggy concert was filmed by D. A. Pennebaker and released in 1979 as the documentary Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. 1971 - Jim Morrison died in a bathtub - 17 Rue Beautreillis In Paris, France. 1969 - Brian Jones drowned in a English swimming pool. Both Brian and Jim died at the age of 27. 1968 - At an impromptu gathering at Joni Mitchell's house in Laurel Canyon - David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash played together for the very first time. The trio went on to form Crosby, Stills and Nash. 1966 - Atlanta Braves pitcher Tony Cloninger hit two grand slams in the same game, a 17-3 win over the San Francisco Giants. Cloninger is one of 13 players in major league history to hit multiple slams in a game, but the only pitcher to do so. The 9 RBI’s are also a single-game record for a pitcher. 1890 - Idaho became the 43rd state.
