TRUMPED: Yesterday in one sentence: The Justice Department plans to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, amid growing pressure to release more details about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes; Speaker Mike Johnson sent the House home early for the August recess to avoid votes on measures tied to Jeffrey Epstein; Trump accused Obama of “treason” and told the Justice Department to prosecute him and other former officials in an effort to distract from the Jeffrey Epstein case; Federal judges in New Jersey voted not to extend Alina Habba’s term as interim U.S. attorney, replacing her with career prosecutor Desiree Leigh Grace, who the Justice Department fired hours later; House Republicans voted to make federal funding for the Kennedy Center contingent on renaming its opera house the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House”; and a Birmingham man who barked at the moon, snorted ants, bit a bat, and rode the crazy train into heavy metal history has died at 76.
WELLNESS: Rastafari Culture
WORD: Heterofatalism - also known as heteropessimism, is a term coined by Asa Seresin describing the negative attitudes and disappointments surrounding heterosexual relationships, often expressed through expressions of regret, embarrassment, or hopelessness about heterosexuality and its associated behaviors. This concept gained traction, particularly online, as a way to articulate widespread frustration with the perceived failings of heterosexual dating and relationships, often in contrast to the perceived ease of same-sex relationships

HISTORICAL CONSCIOUSNESS: 2023 - Elon Musk said he would replace Twitter’s bird logo with an X. He just keeps making great decisions after great decisions. 2020 - Holy Fuck! We bought a house. 2011 - Singer Amy Winehouse, 27, was found dead in her London home from accidental alcohol poisoning. 2007 - The Cheshire murders happened in Connecticut. 2001 - Pete Yorn played Schubas in Chicago. 1999 - Kafka In Tulia: Undercover narcotics agent Thomas Coleman carried out one of the biggest drug stings in Texas history. By the end of the blazing summer day, dozens of residents in the sleepy farming town of Tulia had been rounded up and thrown behind bars. Thirty-nine of the 46 people accused of selling drugs to Coleman were African American. But disturbing evidence about the undercover investigation and Coleman’s past soon began to surface. 1989 - I saw The Who in Wisconsin with my girlfriend Helen. My friend at the time John was the stage manager at the Alpine Valley Music Theater for a couple of years and always let me show up at the back gate whenever I wanted for shows. He would put a laminate around neck and set me free and then after the shows we would meet up for drinks and fun. It was a great time and I got to see many, many shows back then. For The Who show he offered us to sit on stage for the performance - it was amazing, an opportunity of a lifetime to see these Hall of Fame musicians up close and intimate in front of thousands of people. There was even a wet bar behind us - amazing. We were on the Pete Townshend side of the stage and only feet away from him and the band. Townshend was famous for his windmill guitar move - The 'Townsend Windmill' is a big, bad, attention-getter between rhythm chords. Got that? Stroke a chord with a solid kind of authority, swing your pick hand around in a wide sweep, and crush that next chord! - a sight to see whether you are in row whatever or on the side of the fucking stage. Unfortunately, that move usually tore up Pete’s hand when it would hit the strings. I remember blood dripping from his hand on multiple occasions. When it got too bad he would walk over to the side of the stage where his guitar tech was and have Bactine sprayed on his hand to sooth the pain and bleeding. I never saw anything like that before. After the show we were backstage where we met lead singer Roger Daltrey. He was incredible and super nice - he invited us back to the bus where we hung out and talked for what felt like hours. We talked about England and touring, we talked about Keith Moon and Cincinnati. An amazing evening to say the least. Eventually, Pete Townshend showed looking annoyed and pissy and ask who the fuck we were - Roger introduced us and he sneered and said that the bus was leaving and his little party should end now. Townshend was a complete prick and it broke my heart. As beautiful as Daltrey was to us, Townshend crushed me and I never had much of a desire after that to meet heroes. I went on after that to meet others but I was also cautious of the encounter. We drove home after the show and the sun was rising. An amazing night with a unfortunate ending. I hope those windmill guitar moves fucking hurt. 1982 – Outside Santa Clarita, California, actor Vic Morrow and two children were killed when a helicopter crashed onto them while shooting a scene from Twilight Zone: The Movie. 1968 – Glenville shootout: In Cleveland, Ohio, a violent shootout between a Black Militant organization and the Cleveland Police Department occurs. During the shootout, a riot began and lasted for five days. 1967 – 12th Street Riot: In Detroit, one of the worst riots in United States history begins on 12th Street in the predominantly African American inner city. It ultimately kills 43 people, injures 342 and burns about 1,400 buildings. 1929 – The Fascist government in Italy bans the use of foreign words. 1914 - Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia following the killing of Archduke Francis Ferdinand by a Serb assassin; the dispute led to World War I.
“No one knows he is fortunate until he becomes unfortunate." Chaim Potok
“I would like to be remembered as someone who was not afraid to do what she wanted to do, and as someone who took risks along the way in order to achieve her goals.” Sally Ride
“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.” Halie Selassie
“What kind of fuckery is this?” Amy Winehouse
